Weak Coffee: a Fetish of the Past

cup of coffeeI’ve always had a tendency to drink my coffee on the weaker side. When making my brew in the mornings I always cut the recommended scoop amount by about three quarters. And if I’m at a restaurant and don’t have any say over how they brew my coffee, I request that they fill the mug half full with hot water and half with coffee. What can I say; coffee has been about its utility and not its flavor in my mind for years.

It wasn’t until I attended my neighbor’s dinner party two weeks ago that my opinion on what constitutes great coffee completely changed. Just after our meal, the hostess brought around a tray of Italian espresso coffee, cream and sugar. After the three glasses of wine I drank that night, I was much in need of a caffeine boost. Not wanting to expose my freakish coffee obsessions, I poured myself a cup, without any water, figuring I’d only have a few sips and be satisfied. But with just one mouthful of this brew, my taste buds hummed with delight; I even went back for seconds.

The Reason Colombian Coffee is the BestA superb cup of coffee starts with the coffee bean  A quality coffee bean reflects the care that went into the growing, processing, selection, and roasting.

The coffee trees are grown on mountains with rain forest conditions with almost perfect atmospheric quality.

The coffee bean is the seed or pit of the fruit- known as coffee cherries.  Not all coffee cherries ripen at the same time therefore, they are selected with care and picked entirely by hand.

To get a silky smooth cup of coffee the “hot air” roasting method is the best.  The beans are roasted in small batches to ensure the rich taste and mouth watering aroma.

Origins of Mocha

Origins of Mocha

Many people associate the word mocha with a cafe mocha, a drink that includes espresso, steamed milk and chocolate. However, the word mocha has its roots in a time long before this drink was invented. It refers to a coffee bean with a chocolatey taste that is derived from the coffee species Coffee arabica, which is native to Ethiopia. Marco Polo first introduced the bean to Europe after he purchased it from a salesman in Yemen.

It was a salesman from Mocha, Yemen, that supplied Marco Polo, and the bean has been called this ever since. Mocha coffee can either refer to coffee brewed with mocha beans, or the coffee and chocolate drink. The Europeans invented the mocha drink, and there are many ways to make it. You can add the chocolate using sweet cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate or all of them at once! It is definitely the chocolate-lover’s favorite coffee drink.
