If you’ve just come home after a long cold day, and you need a tasty way to warm up and relax, have a cup of Irish cream coffee. Irish coffee is a mixture of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and sugar, topped with whipped cream (some variations include regular cream instead of whipped).
The original Irish coffee was invented in the 1940s by Joseph Sheridan at Foynes, County Limerick. A group of freezing Americans got off a ship during a cold winter evening, and Sheridan, head chef for the port, decided to add whiskey to their coffee to warm up. When they asked him if it was Brazilian coffee, he told them it was Irish coffee.
Irish cream flavoring can also be purchased to add to coffee, which is non-alcoholic.
